Display - AUO to Produce Single-Piece 6G CFs

Instead of attaching four 4.5 generation CF (Color Filter) for its sixth generation panel, AUO has decided to make one-piece CFs that fit with its sixth generation TFT LCD panels. Toppan, currently the main sixth generation CD supplier, produces CFs in a size different from what AUO intends to manufacture. Whether or not the two will form technical alliances remains to be seen.
AUO's sixth generation LCD panel factory is slated to begin mass-producing in the second quarter of 2005, with the first stage substrate input aimed at 60,000 units. Production will be centered around 32" and 37" LCD TV panels. However, a portion of the factory's capacity will be directed towards fabricating LCD monitor panels, inclusive of 17" and 19" sizes.
